20,000 people are being evacuated after a series of explosions at a massive arms depot in eastern Ukraine described by officials as sabotage. As of now, the fire is still burning.
From a Ukrainian in the area: “They say it will take them 7-9 days to put out such fire. Anyhow, whoever did that, he got what he wanted. And this explosion is nowhere near the Chernobyl case if we talk about the consequences. I’ve been there this winter, my Geiger counter would yell and sometimes show 200-300 rem of radiation in some places, 30 years after the incident. When the fire is extinguished the locals will return. Some, at least. They don’t give up on their homes just like that.”
